América Central #1: Guatemala, Honduras & Nicaragua

We left Chiapas and entered Guatemala at La Mesilla. After a quick trip down from the highland crossing we spent a relaxing week at our Antigua home (Casa Veraepacis). It was a great time to relax and get caught up with our Guatemalan friends. We crossed into Honduras at Copan Ruinas, over nighting at Las Marias Hotel. After completing the border crossing it was a relaxing evening at Twisted Tanyas, one of our favorite restaurants in Copan. While in Copan the locals briefed us on their viewpoint on the hosted Honduras president in exile. Most seemed happy to have the president gone and were looking forward to a November election. Our next stop was Celaque National Park, Gracias where we camped. I was excited to visit one of John’s former field sites and meet some of the local folks. It was a real treat to visit with Alejandrina who has lived for over fifty years in the mountains. She runs a small comedor near the park entrance. After Gracias we headed for the Honduras/Nicaragua border, stopping over night at Hotel Colonial, Chineadega and then onto a quiet border crossing on C3 at Guasaule. We drove quickly through Nicaragua stopping for lunch in Leon and then onto Rivas (Hotel Nicaragua) to overnight. Next day, we headed to the Nicaragua/ Costa Rica Border Crossing at Piñas Blancas. It was a hot and humid border crossing even with keeping the AC running for the pets.

Panama

I have not been able to post i-movies since Guatemala but I have continued to work on it. I am now posting compressed files but the overall quality of the i-movie is reduced significantly. I will continue to explore and update later.
